We will begin the year reading Keena Ford and the Second Grade Mix Up. Each student will have their own copy of the book so they can interact with the text. We will all be on Zoom together and I will be reading the chapter book aloud to model intonation and expression. As the students' confidence grows throughout the year, the students will take turns reading aloud. Students will also be assigned pages to read and questions to answer during their independent reading time.
As they year progresses, we continue to read chapter books but the demands will increase as students learn how to make predictions, inferences, connections etc. I have chosen a variety of realistic fiction and non-fiction to peak all students' interests.
