This project is based around the creation of an outdoor learning lab. We recognize the importance of following our state's mandated guidelines for safe in-person learning for our students. In-person learning is important for academics and the social-emotional health of students. With the purchase of these tents, we hope to create outdoor learning labs that will allow students to take a break from mask-wearing during the school day.
Your generosity towards this project will allow teachers to continue their job of educating our wonderful students without the stress of enforcing mask-wearing. The teachers in our school have found that is difficult to understand students who are wearing a mask while they read aloud. This is, of course, a problem in reading class, but it also causes difficulties in other subjects. Most of our science and social studies instruction is centered around reading the material aloud and then discussing it. If the classes were able to go outside and space out, they could then remove their masks and practice their oral reading skills. Students also need to be able to clearly communicate while working on science labs and the outdoor environment would be more conducive to successful group work. Students with hearing impairments will benefit as it is important for them to see facial expressions of both their peers as well as the teacher. We look forward to utilizing the outdoor learning labs to provide our students with a creative solution to meeting Covid-19 guidelines.
