Lifelong fitness education is a goal set by the Physical Education Department at our school. With the Nevada State Standards as our guide, we focus on providing students with multiple types of activities to be healthy and to set the stage for them to build lifelong healthy habits.
With this project we would be able to introduce an additional physical skill for all of our students to use throughout their lifetime. By adding the universal rack and weights to the equipment in our weight room we will be able to encourage students to try different types of weight lifting activities safely. The types of physical activities in the weight room align with NV state standard 3.0 'Students will participate regularly in physical activity' and 3.8.1 'Students will engage in a variety of moderate to vigorous physical activities.'
This past year with Covid19 has put a damper on the ability for students to be physically activity. This project will allow students to be introduced to a variety of activities that the equipment will allow. This project will also help enhance our community partners who also use our weight room. The local Naval Sea Cadets, a group of 30 aspiring Navy personnel ages 10-18, along with their 4 adult supervisors use the weight room facility to help improve their physical strength for monthly drills that they participate in. This project would allow them another option to improve their strength and coordination.
Incorporating this project with the daily physical education classes and community programs can add to the repertoire of physical activities that can be used to increase lifelong physical activity. This project will add a valuable element to our students physical activity choices during physical education class. It will also provide our community partners another aspect to their physical activity regime.
