I have requested a slab roller and clay tools so that my students will be successful in creating clay Monster Mugs using the slab method of construction. The texture mats will allow the students to add texture to their clay monster based on their individual choices. Visual Arts Standards for 6th, 7th, & 8th grade: VA:Cr2.6.1 Demonstrate openness in trying new ideas, materials, methods, and approaches in making works of art and design. VA:Cr2.6.2 Explain environmental implications of conservation, care, and clean-up of art materials, tools, and equipment. VA:Cr2.7.1 Demonstrate persistence in developing skills with various materials, methods, and approaches in creating works of art or design. VA:Cr2.7.3 Apply visual organizational strategies to design and produce a work of art, design, or media that clearly communicates information or ideas. VA:Cn10.8.1 Make art collaboratively to reflect on and reinforce positive aspects of group identity. The requested resources are needed to make various slab projects. The lessons I will implement will be Monster Mugs, Tiki Masks, African Clay Boxes, and Japanese Kimonos.
