Exploration is the cornerstone of students success. After a historically isolating year for our students, the promise of connections and social interaction is crucial to fueling a positive learning environment where students feel safe and confident enough to take risks. Help me foster community and lifelong learning through some of our students' most popular learning manipulatives.
Academic and functional skills are taught through hands-on activities and those same activities are used to teach valuable social skills. For students who struggle to collaborate or cooperate with peers, hands-on activities encourage them to work together. [My STEAM classroom] provides a safe, non-threatening opportunity to practice collaboration. Starting with simple exploration of materials (e.g., Legos, arts supplies, etc.), supports are scaffolded to assist students with becoming more comfortable and independent in their learning. All of our students are encouraged to complete hands-on learning activities throughout the school day.
