As a special education teacher, I end up creating and assembling a LOT of instructional materials (word mats, name reading, letter formation mats, number tracing mats) and behavior management systems (token boards, if/then charts, personalized schedules) by hand. Due to challenging behaviors, laminating everything in sight is necessary and Velcro is considered GOLD. By creating differentiated materials that are tailored to each and every student, ALL students are able to access targeted learning. My students’ needs require pre-vocational instruction mixed with social skills instruction. This list includes social-emotional/coping skills resources, durable pouches to store all personal supplies and books, and a classroom divider for our behavior intervention calming corner.
