Projects motivate students. They gain learning by doing. Throughout the school year, I enjoy doing two projects in particular. We learn about geometric kites and making geometric Christmas ornaments.
The kite project, the students are instructed to: research the history, science, and design of kites; design a blueprint of their kite and find the measurements, scale factor, area, and perimeter of their blueprint; and construct and fly their kite. This is a project that takes several days. The materials will allow a financial burden to me and my students to be able to have the supplies to construct this project. This project spans across the curriculums to enhance learning. The geometric Christmas ornament project, students create a geometric ornament. It should be 3D and illustrate at least 10 geometric concepts. These concepts must be concepts we have covered thus far. The ornament may represent the holiday celebrated.
Both projects have been successful in previous years!
