One of the most exciting new things to learn in 3rd grade is cursive handwriting. This is an art that I am passionate about, and this curriculum has proven to me that it's the best way to teach students in a way that is enjoyable and makes them feel successful. I have students who may have been labeled as ones with "bad penmanship" or "poor motor skills," but I have had these students learn how to write legibly in cursive with HWT. This curriculum is a style of cursive that is ergonomic and approved by occupational therapists.
With the confidence and practice in handwriting, my students will be motivated to write more in all content areas.
During distance learning, I will embed "Low-tech" and meaningful activities like this because all students need a break from their computer screens. They will be practicing cursive because it is not only fun, but it's also a 3rd grade California content standard for writing:
Penmanship 1.2
Write legibly in cursive or joined italic, allowing margins and correct spacing between letters in a word and words in a sentence.
