I am requesting a subscription to Scholastic Magazine to provide students with appropriately-aligned and exciting non-fiction text. I am also asking for whiteboards, Expo markers, and Post-it Notes, for students to use at home. Scholastic Magazine is an excellent classroom resource in that it is compliant with New Jersey Student Learning Standards for English Language Arts, and will address many teaching strands. Students can practice rereading and referencing the articles using the whiteboards, markers, and Post-its to engage. Scholastic's digital-remote learning feature will allow for differentiated remote learning instruction.
Another reason I am asking for the Scholastic Magazines donation is to enhance student geographical and scientific knowledge of the world. I am requesting post-its and whiteboards for students to write their thoughts and ideas. Students will be able to read their differentiated text and explore the magazines contrasting cultures, values, and norms. Additionally, student readers will be able to facilitate close reading and engage in peer-to-peer discussions. Students will find evidence in the text and use these examples to support their thinking. Finally, Scholastic Magazine will promote reading fluency via teacher modeling, and multiple rereads.
