My students are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who attend a rural middle school where 100% of the students qualify for free lunch. Our students face all kinds of challenges - compounded by the added weight of a pandemic - but they are always ready to rise and be their best! These are kids that are eager and passionate about learning and experiencing new things. They are the future, and they know it!
Art class gives these students a chance to develop both their creativity and craftsmanship, as well as giving them a look at different kinds of people and cultures through the study of art history.
Many of my students tell me that art is the class they look forward to the most every day! I want to encourage that artistic energy and growth in my students as we transition into virtual learning this semester - so that even when they are not in school, they can keep on creating!
