Kindergarten students need engaging activities, especially when they are learning to read. Each day, my students do purposeful, independent word work while I meet with small groups. These word work activities are hands-on and I use many different materials to help make these activities in school fun and engaging. Activities such as rainbow writing with smelly markers, and forming words with molding clay, stamping sight words, and sound games. The goal of providing different hands-on activities is to reach all learning styles to learn letters, sounds, sight words, and how to blend sounds to read words. Kindergartners also love holidays and I put some fun holiday decor for the classroom in the cart that I know they will love! They also need rewards for good behavior and the rewards keep them motivated. So, I added small incentives for good behavior! Organization is also key to having a successful classroom. I need baskets, and buckets to make sure materials are organized. Students are also very rough on their pencils and they need to be sharpened frequently. My old sharpener died and I need a replacement.
Kindergartners need hands-on materials to learn and they go through them quickly! I usually spend $500 of my own money each year and I just can't do that this year. Please help me give them what they need to help them reach their potential.
