The items I have requested include both picture books and materials to complete STEM based projects during science. The books will be used to foster prior knowledge and build a love of the content. Students will experience curiosity, wonder and awe while being captivated by these picture books. I have requested several books for each of the four units I hope to cover in science this year: an introductory unit, a plants & animals (life science) unit, a Sun and stars (astronomy) unit, and light and sound (physical science) unit.
By donating to our project, you will not only foster a love for literacy, but also a love for science by giving my students hands on learning experiences that tie to picture books they have just listened to.
All other materials requested in this project are items my students need to complete the hands on portion of the units. These will be split among students at school or put into a box to support my students who chose distance learning during this time so that the lessons can be completed from home along with the rest of the class.
As a student who did not enjoy science because it was straight out of a textbook with no hands on projects or experiments, I am looking to develop that love of wonder and curiosity in my students with experiences I did not get.
