Math manipulatives help students develop understanding of mathematical concepts and help decrease math anxiety. Because my students will be receiving their instruction 100% online, they will not have many of the tools that they need in their homes. By putting manipulatives in their hands, students will be able to make concrete representations and drawings. These manipulatives will be used with synchronous whole group instruction and guided math groups. Students will also be able to utilize their manipulatives for asynchronous learning activities that they complete independently. Manipulatives will enable students to demonstrate their knowledge of concepts and skills on performance based assessments. The children will be able to build models and explain their thinking.
