Prior to school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, my students have always relied on their connections with teachers and other school staff. School has been a safe haven for them. Laptops provided to teachers through the school are unfortunately very outdated and as a result, have slow processing and unreliable connections. Also, when we can return to school safely, this laptop will be used for a literacy center within the classroom helping engage low-level readers! This laptop will be the beginning of engaging students with literacy, especially with websites that increase reading, fluency, and comprehension in an interactive way. The goal and learning outcome is to have multiple laptops eventually in a center where students can listen to audiobooks, read short essays or digitally read a book in order to engage in discourse about social issues developed throughout their books. They can support book clubs, essay writing, character and central idea analysis, and debates.
