Diverse books are so important! They reflect my students and let them feel seen and heard. They are able to see aspects of their lives, families, and neighborhoods in these books. Seeing yourself in a book and having a connection is so important for identity development and the development of empathy! Diverse books give my students the representation they deserve, as well as a love for and acceptance of other cultures. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, and these books will help develop and celebrate their cultural identity.
