My goal is to provide each of my students with individual carpet squares to encourage social distancing in the classroom. The individual carpet squares will allow me the convenience of effective cleaning. The individual carpets will be used in the classroom for carpet time, silent reading time, calming/peace time, and morning meeting.
The advantage to each student having an assigned carpet square, instead of a large carpet, is that each student is made up of diverse learners. Some students learn well sitting at a desk, some learn better sitting on the floor in a corner, away from others. If I have an individualized carpet square, I will be able to meet the needs of that diverse learner, assisting them in their learning environment.
