The best way to encourage reading is to ensure the students will find something they enjoy reading. Giving my students the opportunity to choose what they like to read is important to me. I want my students to have all the opportunities to learn that I was given as a child. Additionally, I want them to feel comfortable and be able to absorb themselves in the experience of reading. Many students in Title I schools do not have access to an abundance of reading materials or a comfortable place conducive to reading for enjoyment. Reading can provide an opportunity for escape, exploration, and education. These students deserve to experience and discover the world in a way they are able to and that way is through reading.
