These materials will make a difference in the students' learning because it gets them off of a screen, allows them to get up close and personal with a text. They get the feel and smell of a brand new book. This does not generally exist in the SPED world. Being able to use your senses; touch, smell, see, and hear the sound of the pages turning, really get them comfortable with books. These will be given to the students so that they can have a book at home to help them get involved in a world separate from their own world and allow them to get outside, under a tree, away from a screen and just read. We will be using these books to read individually, read together as a group, have lit circles, increase their knowledge on real life issues, increase their ability to comprehend and put onto paper what they felt, what they learned, what happened and learning more about cause and effect. This will work towards their goals in education and their progress towards individual education goals. Not only will these students gain more skills in reading and writing, they will achieve their educational goals as outlined in their individual educational plan, with the supports they many times do not receive, all because of a brand new book they get to interact with.
