In the virtual world, it's more important than ever that students have access to physical copies of books. Many of my students have special needs, which makes it more difficult for them to read PDFs or electronic books. Having physical copies of the books encourages students to invest in the class and the readings.
For many students who may have very few (or no) books in the house, having a book that they will LOVE to read, which is their very own, can be a doorway to discovering their passions for reading, or writing, or creating.
