Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, once stated, “Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future.” If children, including black and brown students, are truly our future, then my students deserve to have classroom necessities like well-built bookshelves, whiteboards, Expo markers, and a clean, colorful carpet to sit on. They deserve to have an inviting classroom library full of culturally responsive grade-level books. They deserve to have an appropriate place where they can store educational tools. Thus, it would mean the world to me if you would help me provide my students with a positive, welcoming space that is functional for learning and a space students will not want to leave. By funding this project, you are supporting equity in education and ensuring that Nelson Mandela’s words are heard.
