Connecting with Mother Nature is wonderful in the morning coolness, but, tragically, there is no shade around our building and my students wilt in the intense afternoon heat. Taking my students outside for class allows me to naturally integrate environmental issues, book settings, and nature into our lessons. It also allows my students to remove their masks.
A web camera will allow my virtual students to feel connected to me and their peers, instead of feeling so isolated. I will be frequently inviting my students to live classroom lessons and individual or group Google Meets. These interactions will allow me to gauge student understanding, answer questions, and provide needed support for my struggling readers. It will allow me to engage all of my students in our weekly book talks and discussions, whether they are at home or sitting in my class.
