I have the sweetest 6 and 7 year olds in my class. In our discussions you can tell that they've already had some rough times in their short lives. The just want to be loved and accepted and feel safe. I teach first grade at a Title 1 school, meaning these are low income families. I have students who have never left the city of Chattanooga and others who have moved here from Nigeria and Sudan. I have students who speak spanish, arabic, and swahili. We celebrate what makes each of us unique and special, and also the things that make us the same.
