The items requested will be used to help create a calming room for our students K-5. Many students face challenges at home and need a safe, calm place to talk about the problems they are facing. There are a large amount of students who live in poverty, have a parent in jail, are in temporary foster placements or shelters. School can be an outlet for them to express their anger or frustration about the challenges they are facing. The calming zone would be a safe environment and would provide them with an outlet to handle their emotions to allow for them to regain focus in their classrooms to continue academics. The calming zone would also serve as a social/emotional learning environment where students could go to work on problem solving with peers or adults, develop problem solving skills and to work with counselors in a space where they can feel safe to share their feelings.
