Teaching science requires thoughtful class-wide discussion. It requires vulnerability in students, because all ideas can be used to further our science learning. And thus ultimately, it requires a setting where all students feel known and heard.
In order to connect the best with my students, I need access to the chat and to multiple windows open to different breakout rooms during synchronous online learning. On my small screen, it is difficult to see the faces of my students, see their ideas in the chat or in a Google Doc, and also see the slides I am presenting!
An extra monitor will give me enough screen real estate to best engage every student fully, giving me the opportunity to work with groups and individuals during every class. This will best equip me in facilitating learning for ALL students, and for me to best connect with my high school students in order to build a true community, despite the reality of remote leaning.
