The student at our elementary school need a safe and comfortable learning environment first and foremost. Many students come from home where they have to share beds with siblings, if a bed is available at all. Our music classroom is located in the basement of our school and has tile flooring. Chairs are not available for all students, so sitting on the floor is the only place where students can sit and all be on the same level. The hard tile is distracting and uncomfortable for many students, as it get cold in the winter, and attracts condensation in the warmer months.
In addition to providing a comfortable and welcoming learning environment for students to feel safe, this rug is also a wonderful learning tool and functions as a visual resource for students in various grade levels. Most of the students who come through the music classroom need visual assistance or tools in order to be successful. This rug includes symbols that are used from first grade all the way through fifth grade, giving the students many opportunities to use this resource. We learn about tempo, dynamics, rhythm and note reading throughout the years in music, all of which are supported by this resource rug.
I have seen how a resource rug such as this can provide such a positive influence and give additional support to students of all achievement levels. Thank you so much for taking the time to consider supporting our music classroom!
