As students begin the craft of narrative writing, finding the seeds in their own lives that will become meaningful stories, they need examples to guide them. Without a document camera I cannot show them the process of a writing workshop, practicing together in real time. With a document camera I will be able to guide them and inspire them as they watch me move through the process myself, modeling the challenges and triumphs of creative writing. Students need that guidance, that support, as they find their own voices and create their own stories.
Building a mindset of boundless creativity and connected empathy, focusing on the vastness of the world, can be challenging when living with limited community access and material means. But through literature I have seen the world unfold before students' eyes and through writing they learn to see that their story matters just as much as any, maybe even more.
