As a school counselor and registered play therapist, I am always looking for ways to engage students in meaningful ways when it comes to learning social emotional skills in-person or online.
Emotional intelligence is a way of recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act, and it defines how and what we learn; it allows us to set priorities; and it determines the majority of our daily actions. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves.
Research has found that explicitly teaching social and emotional skills can help students become more resilient, which helps them deal with the effects of trauma or adverse events in their lives. Some research has even shown that teaching social and emotional skills leads to better academic achievement (11% increase) and improved classroom behavior. I am confident GoZen! will be a powerful tool in my therapeutic toolbox.
