There is currently no community carpet in the classroom and due to COVID last year, we weren't able to utilize such resource. The kindergarten team definitely saw some of the negative affects of not having a set physical space, like the carpet, where children can come together to express their ideas, narratives, and feelings.
Students will be able to come together on this carpet to dialogue; share experiences and anecdotes; cooperative play; learn social skills like listening and giving feedback; and start the day with some mindfulness. This carpet will also make a great addition to our K2 classroom and will facilitate many activities with less disruption. The bilingual kindergarteners will definitely benefit from such large space to explore and learn.
