I can remember getting my first remote control car as a kid. Little did I know that a gift would spark a life long love for cars that lives on to this day. My hope is to provide a safe place where my students can experience the hobby that has sparked my love for cars. Each student will be assigned a remote control (R.C.) buggy and be in charge of customizing its electronics and appearance. After a few weeks students will race and have other peers judge the custom paint jobs they create. After the program the student will keep the custom bodies they create.
The school I teach at is in a part of the Oakland Unified School District in Oakland, California where most kids do not have the means to buy a R.C. car and if they are fortunate to have enough money, they do not have a safe place to drive their car. I am currently a Physical Education instructor and after school coordinator; and with these cars I plan on starting an after school class where students learn how to fix, modify and customize R.C. cars. This could provide our students a safe space to explore something new that could lead to a life long passion or career.
Thank you!
