My students have a varying level of abilities and skills when it comes to emotional responses to situations. We are always working on helping them to respond to a situation calmly, however that is best done when we have items in our classroom that can help us be more proactive in those situations where students have more negative responses. These sensory items will be a great help, my students will be able to use them throughout the day to help regulate their emotions and responses to changes in their environment and other unusually situations that can arise during a school day (such as a change in schedule). Many of my students have autism and also ADHD, and sensory items which are weighted are amazing in helping them feel calm due to the outside weighted pressure on their body. For all my students finding ways to provide externally sensory input, helps to soothe them internally when they feel unsettled or upset. Items that my students can hold and use to fiddle with or, items that provide comfort or weight/pressure, help them to focus and enable them to better access learning and academic tasks. My students are so sweet however they can't always maintain a safe body and calm demeanor, and sensory items are a great way to ensure that we can be safe and continue learning at school :)
