I am going to try to give my students a hands-on experience as part of our study of world religions and Asia. They will watch a virtual presentation about the Hindu festival of Diwali by a fabulous arts educator from India. Then she will guide them in making designs using colored chalk on black construction paper to simulate the rangoli designs Indian women and families make in colored rice flour in front of their houses on Diwali. Students will light their diyas (traditional Diwali lights) and enjoy this special celebration.
