While the students are learning remotely, the document camera is vital. They need to be able to see what I am writing or doing with the materials they are going to use to learn.
Everyone learns by doing and observing not just through lecture. When we are back face-to-face, students will be able to be the teacher and show their classmates how to solve a math problem, compose a sentence or observe a singe artifact when it isn't enough for all to observe. Students will be able to utilize tablets in small groups to share their learning and investigate problems independently.
