This project is designed as an opportunity to connect the two schools in our small town. The seventh grade and ninth grade students are both groups who have a strong desire to be connected to a true community. They will start by reading the books together and then from there do a series of projects together that will be inspired by the books. Much as the book does, they will be transformed into community members.
While the process of reading the book will improve their language arts skills, it will also go far beyond that and lead students to be inspired. They will be inspired to make the community around them a better place and that is more enjoyable for all community members by completing community-minded projects
