Now more than ever, it is imperative that students are able to release their energy and easily interact with one another. Before each music class, I will set up CanDo Donut Exercise balls at each student's designated spot. When students are assigned any partner or group work, they can easily move these exercise balls without emitting distracting noises. They are easily stored too. When we play energetic circle games and dance, the exercise balls free up significant space. Space is a valuable commodity and our class, and my students will appreciate an open environment, conducive to creativity.
There is something about sitting low to the ground that helps my students feel connected in our class community. Exercise balls are a great alternative to metal chairs and enable us to all sit close to the ground together. However, their current chairs are not easy to move, and naturally create barriers to social interaction. These exercise donuts will allow students to comfortably sit low to the ground, and I am confident my students will appreciate the alternative to either sitting on a tile floor or fighting to feel comfortable in a metal chair. When my students are comfortable, they feel welcomed and ready to make music!
