Through the use of this instrument, I will be able to expand my pedagogical knowledge to include stringed instruments. As an educator, I constantly strive to better myself musically in any way that I can. I teach band, and as such I am required to be knowledgable about a large variety of instruments. Brass instruments are my strongest area, with woodwinds and percussion second.
I would love to someday teach in a secondary position that would allow me to work not only with wind instruments but also with strings. Because my end goal is secondary ed band and orchestra, I would very much like to increase my knowledge of string instruments. During my time in college I did take a few classes dedicated to string pedagogy, but I believe that I require much more development in this area in order for my students and myself to truly be successful. As a fairly new teacher, I do not currently have the means to purchase instruments that would allow me to continue my educational pursuits.
