My students have done a great job adapting to distance learning. It is not easy for second graders to sit in front of a screen for multiple hours a day. The school has provided iPads for all of the students. Most of them log on every morning and they are eager and ready to learn. However, many of their home environments are a bit chaotic and noisy and sometimes they are easily distracted.
When the students are not on mute, I can often hear pets, babies, music, people yelling, and even their siblings' teachers talking on other devices. My goal is to try to cancel out some of this background noise and make it easier for my students to hear and communicate in our Zoom classes. Hopefully having personal headphones will enable them to tune in to our Zoom classes and be fully focus and engaged.
It will be especially important for the students to wear their new headphones during our sharing and small group times when I need to be able to hear and assess each student. During the guided reading groups, children either read chorally or take turns reading and they should hear each other. These headphones have microphones that will allow them to speak without having to yell and constantly mute themselves. It will also be helpful for the students to better hear during videos and educational songs.
I simply don't want my students to miss out on anything! It is a gift to speak and be heard. These new headphones will enable all of my students to listen with little effort. Thank you so much!
