As people of the 21st century, my students are being prepared for our ever-growing digital world. To help in their technological and cyber knowledge, they use their laptops daily. From using what was learned in a writing lesson to type up their first draft of an essay to using a website during math to help with manipulatives and visualizing fractions.
A large portion of the laptop use centers on building their language acquisition in English and Spanish. The students are expected daily to use Lexia Core which centers on various linguistic aspects of the English language. My students must hear clearly the pronunciation of each of the letters, syllables, words, and texts to answer accurately. Ensuring that each student has a headset will help them hear all those necessary sounds and stay focused on their learning while using the program.
Another way that my students use their laptops daily is to help build their Spanish fluency. They record themselves reading out loud a piece of text and work on sounding more fluent. Not only will each student having their own headset help students hear clearly what they recorded, but they can also help each other by being able to listen to others' recordings and comment on how they can all get better at reading.
My students would use the headsets daily in language acquisition in various ways! Aside from language activities, there are countless other opportunities in which having headsets are necessary for my classroom. Having the headsets would give each of my students the same opportunity to hear clearly and focus on their learning.
