Replacing books and updating our library's collection is fundamental in keeping students engaged in reading. Our students, mostly low-income, took home books at the beginning of the pandemic over 6 months ago. Most of those have since been lost.
To paraphrase Joshua Westbrook, a local librarian, "Our students are living stories every day that we wouldn’t let them read." Books provide opportunities for students to escape the boundaries of their existence and seek, experience, and find meaning in a sometimes unpleasant and unfriendly world. New books and an updated library collection will keep students reading and feed their hunger for knowledge and adventure.
