In third grade we spend a lot of time learning important life skills--multiplication, division, and telling time! My students are curious and eager to learn, but need the proper tools to do so.
An important part of our classroom is being comfortable making mistakes and learning from them--my students are more engaged and much more willing to make mistakes and take risks in learning when it can be done on a whiteboard or with fun math manipulatives. White boards allow for students to easily erase and fix mistakes while math manipulatives, such as counters and animals (that relate to English class!), will help us demonstrate groups for solving multiplication and division problems. The dice will help us play fun games that push us to get faster at our multiplication and division facts, along with addition and subtraction that we are still working on.
For telling time, the dry erase clocks for each student will help make learning time so much more accessible, personalized, and fun! All of these materials are things we will use whole group as a class, but also in small groups where we work on math skills that need extra attention. Finally, as a first year teacher, I need help in creating a warm, welcoming environment that inspires my students to learn all the math they can!
