We are looking to excite and engage our students by reading Long Way Down, by Jason Reynolds. Reynolds was named the 2020-2021 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. He is a New York Times bestselling author of multiple books, including Long Way Down, an“an electrifying novel that takes place in sixty potent seconds—the time it takes a kid to decide whether or not he’s going to murder the guy who killed his brother” (Simon & Schuster, Inc).
Written in verse, this novel is the perfect bridge between our short story unit and our poetry unit. We are excited to spark the interest and engagement of our students by reading this award winning novel by one of the most important African-American authors of our time.
