The use of tables is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in an art class. a solid, clean work surface will allows my students to create the best artwork to their ability. What becomes a problem is the fact that the tables are wobbly and scratched up from 30 plus years of daily use by students. I am also a firm believer that students will take pride in their work by being able to take pride in their classroom. By having a nicer work surface, students will be more likely to enjoy being in my class and will work harder.
When students draw and/or shade on a rough surface, it effects the quality of their artwork. A smooth surface without peeling laminate under their paper will help them have a better quality project so they can have more confidence in their work and abilities. Art is such an important part of my students lives, especially in today's culture where there is less and less time to learn and cultivate artistic interests.
