The year 2020 will forever be engrained in our minds as a year of challenges and obstacles. However, I firmly believe this year has so much potential - it is an opportunity to develop grace, understanding, positivity, and resilience in the face of this unprecedented year. As a third-grade teacher, I recognize the importance of my role in providing consistency, routine, and educational experiences that cannot be duplicated anywhere but in a school. For many years, I have incorporated social-emotional lessons into my classroom because I recognize the importance of creating a safe, positive, and predictable classroom environment. In the absence of a safe learning space, true learning cannot be achieved. My students are returning to school after six months of uncertainty, stress, disappointment, and loss. I am looking to expand my classroom library with rich, meaningful, and engaging picture books that focus on themes relating to identifying emotions, self-regulation, social awareness, kindness, and respect. I believe these books lead to powerful classroom discussions, activities, and teachable moments. I am so grateful for any donations that will be used to achieve my goal.
