Where I teach, there is a lot of poverty, hopelessness, drugs, and depression. Every day educators and government officials expect my kids to come to school fully prepared to learn.
However, the kids that I teach face situations every day that most adults would shudder at, making their world perspective unravel. I have heard stories of parents overdosing, watching family members commit crimes and violence, and dealing with hungry bellies. This memoir will not only relate to my kids but give them hope. This book shows that someone with such adversities can succeed.
