My students are challenged with social and emotional difficulties that contribute to educational difficulties. Our class helps them overcome these difficulties with instruction in social emotional skills and teaching academics mostly in small groups. This can be a difficult task when technology is so heavily encouraged in education today.
Our students need to have access to technology in small groups in order to use all of the resources available to us.. Many of our students have difficulty with the ability to focus. So, the use of the ActivBoard for academics in small groups is a huge distraction to other students.
Having iPads for each small group would allow us the possibility of using educational websites and digital textbooks during our instructional groups. We would also be able to use them for positive reinforcement for our students that are making good choices to continue educational practice without distracting other students who are still working on other things.
