I work in a Title 1 elementary school in which about half of the student population falls into the category "economically disadvantaged" and books are reading have historically been put on the back burner. I want to foster a love for reading in my students. Allowing students to read books that they themselves are interested in, instead of ones that we tell them to read, will hopefully encourage them to read more and more. Studies show that the more a child reads, the better their literacy and vocabulary, so I have chosen books that they have specifically requested and books that are apart of a series so that once they read the first one, they will be hooked!
