I have heard before that books are windows and mirrors for people. It helps readers see the outside world and different perspectives, but it can also reflect them. So what happens when there is no diversity in topics and authors? These students might think their race, culture, beliefs, and identity don't matter. I want to give my students diversity. I want them to experience other cultures and I want them to read more books than ones written by white males. Students need to know all identities matter and read about characters from all different walks of life.
