“We read to see two kinds of worlds: our own, and the ones we can’t imagine. We read to see ourselves reflected, and to peek into other people’s lives. Our kids need to read about people not like them to expand their horizons and their empathy."
A multicultural library helps all students feel celebrated. With my first graders coming to in-person learning for the first time in their lives, daily read alouds of multicultural books will provide just this. My students will not only feel seen and heard but celebrated and important. I have seen how inclusion can positively impact students' work and demeanor, and hope these books will help my students grow even more!
