As a school based speech pathologist I use literacy based speech therapy to reach all of my students.
"Everyone deserves a voice"- unknown. My special needs students work so hard everyday to communicate their wants and needs, it is my hope to give them all the support and tools they need to grow and glow. I often read aloud to my students during speech therapy sessions, both in person and on zoom. They need to be able to view the book we are reading more clearly, a document camera would fix this! When practicing their new speech sounds, understanding tongue placement in their mouth is paramount, the large mouth model will help them visualize and increase their oral awareness! The mystery box makes everything fun! Students can learn to answer WH questions, ask questions, describe items and picture items from descriptions. These are all needed for robust expressive language! Alphabet tubs will provide hands on tactile feedback to learn new sounds and what words are made with those sounds! We can use them for articulation, expressive and receptive language as well!
