My colleague and I are requesting class sets of Just Mercy so that we can expand on our Civil Rights literature unit. In the past, students have read To Kill a Mockingbird and have researched the Civil Rights Movement, the criminal justice system, racial inequality, etc. We want to expand on this unit and offer a more diverse and authentic depiction of racial injustices. We plan to still have students read To Kill a Mockingbird, but also read Just Mercy, look at the similarities and differences, and discuss the impact both texts have on our society. Please help us in providing this text for our students.
