This pandemic has already taken so much from my students, I do not want it to affect their quality of education as well. With the current situation in the world, education and it's effectiveness have taken a hit. With the majority of my kids moving to online classes, my face to face kids are discouraged and uninterested in school and learning to say the least.
In an attempt to give the school year a bit of a face lift, I have selected short stories and novels that will grasp the kids' attention, but also provide sufficient content to teach and develop.
One of these texts that I selected is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This novel teaches readers about compassion, resiliency, and standing up in the face of adversity and trouble. I couldn't think of a better book to intrigue readers and develop a connection from fiction to the world around them.
